Artefacts from Wrecks

The Forgotten Wrecks project is a non-recovery project and will not be involved with raising artefacts, however, many objects have been recovered from sites in the past and are currnetly held in dispersed collections (some public, some private). Where possible, and with the help of volunteers, the project aims to record them to help 'virtually reunite and recreate’ the archive of sites via a digital record.

In some case photographs and video will be brought together with data from other individuals and sources to help generate 3-D models like this:

Take a quick tour of our Instamuseum virtual gallery to find out how the project is working with divers and volunteers to record artefacts recovered in the past from some of the Forgotten Wrecks:

You can see artefacts in each of the south coast counties from some of the Forgotten Wrecks  via the project's Temporary Exhibitions.

If you have any artefacts from vessels lost during the First World War along the south coast and you would be happy for them to be recorded as part of the Forgotten Wrecks project, or if you would like to help with the recording of these artefacts. please contact us via This email address is being protected from spambots.
